Lambros Varelas was born in 1968 in Vathirema, Trikala. He got his BA, MA and PhD in Modern Greek Literature (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). In 2001 he was appointed a researcher on Modern Greek Literature at the Centre for the Greek Language (Thessaloniki). Since 2010 he is an assistant professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (School of Philology). He is also a tutor of Modern Greek Literature at the Hellenic Open University. His research interests involve 19th century Modern Greek literature, «Νεοελληνικά Αναγνώσματα» [literary texts] in greek education, and 19th and 20th century greek literary magazines. Some of his works are: Ελληνικά Γράμματα (1927-1930) [The periodical Greek Letters (1927-1930)] (University Studio Press, Thessaloniki 1995); the Marinos Papadopoulos Vretos’s narratives (Nefeli, Athens 2004); Η νεοελληνική και μεταφρασμένη λογοτεχνία στην ελλαδική δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση (1884-2001). Συνοπτική ιστορική θεώρηση και αποδελτίωση των διδακτικών εγχειριδίων [Modern Greek Literature and Translated Texts in Greek Secondary Education (1884-2001): A Brief Historical Review and Index of the Textbooks] (Centre for the Greek Language, Thessaloniki 2007). He has also published many articles.
